Jaipur, Oct. 16 -- The state government on Wednesday suspended Chittorgarh district transport officer (DTO) Surendra Singh Gehlot and assistant administrative officer Chunnilal, officials aware of the matter said. The two officials were responsible for the inspection of the ill-fated sleeper bus which caught on fire on Tuesday on the Jaisalmer-Jodhpur highway, they added. Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma instructed cabinet minister Madan Dilawar to monitor the situation from Jodhpur and ensure treatment for the injured. He met victims' families and commiserated with officials during his visit to the Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Jodhpur, where most victims were brought in. He also directed officials to deploy a dedicated medical monitoring team and directed that every relative of the injured should be provided with essential facilities at the hospital. Sharma also cancelled his scheduled election campaign in Patna in the incident's wake. He held discussions with public representatives and party workers in Jaisalmer and Jodhpur, appealing to them to extend every possible assistance in relief and rescue operations....
