Bhilwara, Aug. 1 -- Two more women died late on Wednesday night at Bhilwara's Mahatma Gandhi hospital, taking the total number of maternal deaths in the district's biggest hospital to seven in the month of July, officials said. One of the deceased women had delivered her baby in Shahpura and was later referred to Bhilwara in critical condition, while the second woman had delivered at Mahatma Gandhi District hospital itself. Hospital superintendent Dovtor Arun Gaur said that Sugna Mohan Bairwa, a 22-year-old resident of the Kothari area, was in shock upon arrival and her blood pressure could not be recorded. Her haemoglobin level was found to be extremely low at 1.8 grams per decilitre. She was admitted to the medical ICU, where a team of specialists provided all possible treatment, but she could not be saved due to severe shock and acute anaemia, officials said. The second victim, Rani Bhura Banjara, an 18-year-old resident of Patel Nagar, had delivered her first child at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital. Soon after delivery, she suffered seizures followed by excessive bleeding. Medical tests revealed abnormal D-dimer and PT/INR reports, and she soon went into severe shock. Dr. Gaur said that the hospital is continuously working to provide the best possible treatment to pregnant women. Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Sanjeev Kumar Sharma said that a detailed investigation has been initiated in both cases.
