Jaipur/Barmer, July 22 -- Two Bangladeshi nationals were detained in Sirohi district's Abu Road on Tuesday after they allegedly failed to produce valid identity documents, police said. The two women were identified as Moniya Khatun (26) and Esha Islam (24). Abu Road station house officer (SHO) Pradeep Danga said both were from Dhaka. Their detention followed a tip-off received on July 18. Police raided a rented house near a government school in Umarni village. Four women were found living there. Police said two of them produced valid identity documents, and the others failed and were subsequently taken into custody. They allegedly admitted to have entered India illegally during questioning by the CID and the district special branch. Investigators said that the women claimed to have crossed into India around 11 months ago through an agent and obtained forged identity documents in Uttar Pradesh. Both were shifted to the Sakhi Centre for further interrogation and their phones were seized. The process to deport them to Bangladesh is underway, police said. Investigators said they were working to trace the alleged network facilitating illegal immigration that aided the women. The action closely follows the detention of Bangladeshi nationals in Ajmer and Kuchaman. According to home department data, 1,064 Bangladeshi nationals allegedly staying in India illegally were detained in the state between December 15, 2023 and June 30, 2026, and 1,067 were deported, including people detained before December 15, 2023. The intensified action follows directions issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs on May 2, 2025, regarding the identification and deportation of illegal foreign nationals. Under the Citizenship Act, 1955, an illegal migrant is defined as a foreign national who enters India without valid travel documents or remains in the country after the expiry of a valid visa. State governments and police are responsible for identifying, detaining and facilitating the deportation of such individuals....
