Jaipur, Oct. 23 -- At least 175 people were injured due to various firecracker-related accidents in the last three days, of whom 33 are still undergoing treatment in a serious condition in Jaipur's Sawai Man Singh Hospital, officials said. The additional superintendent of the hospital, Dr Pradeep Sharma, said, "Although we don't have the age-wise figure compiled yet, most of these 175 patients were minors. The maximum 99 patients visited the hospital only on Monday while another 14 arrived on Sunday and rest 62 on Tuesday." Of the total 175, at least 89 patients came with burn injuries, according to the data shared by the SMS Hospital. "Those burns were majorly sustained due to firecracker explosions. Around 11 of them are still being treated at the plastic surgery and burn unit of the hospital. Most of them have 30% to 40% burn injuries while one or two of them have more than 50%," he said. Meanwhile, another 86 patients also arrived in the hospital during Diwali with burn injuries in their eyes, of whom 22 are still undergoing treatment at the Opthalmology department. Sharma said no cases were reported in the trauma centre during Diwali. "We have set up all arrangements to attend these patients in two sections, emergency and the trauma centre. However, most had minor injuries and had been discharged after primary treatment. Hence, they all were taken in the emergency unit only later." Meanwhile, at least 107 fire incidents were also reported across all the fire stations in Jaipur in the last three days.
