13 phones, 11 sims discovered in jodhpur central prison: officials
JODHPUR, March 16 -- The jail administration has discovered 13 mobile phones and 11 SIM cards during a late-night search operation inside Jodhpur Central Jail after a photograph of an Iftar gathering held inside the prison went viral on social media, jail officials said on Sunday.
The jail officials said that the search was carried out late Saturday night on the directions of jail superintendent Pradeep Lakhawat. Teams of jail guards and personnel from the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary launched the operation after the viral photo triggered concern within the prison administration. The Iftar gathering had been organised on March 13 in the jail premises following instructions from the headquarters. Prison inmates had participated in the event. However, a photograph from the gathering surfaced on social media on Saturday, causing alarm among officials. Following this, teams were formed and a search operation began around 10:30 pm.
Based on the complaint filed by jail authorities at Ratanada Police Station, questioning of inmates identified in the viral photograph revealed that prisoners Wasim Khan and Waheed Khan stated that a selfie had been taken on March 13 while they were breaking their fast in barrack number 3 of ward number 7 along with inmates Shekhar, Subhash and Karim.
During interrogation, officials found that the selfie had been taken by inmate Karim using a mobile phone borrowed from another prisoner, Narpat. Probe said all the devices have been sent to cyber experts for forensic examination....
