12 peacocks, 7 turtles found dead in rvtr
Jaipur, March 22 -- Carcasses of 12 peacocks and seven turtles were found in the buffer zone of Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve (RVTR) in Indergarh range of Bundi district with officials suspecting some disease may have caused their deaths.
Deputy conservator of forests (RVTR) Arun Kumar D said, "Villagers informed forest officials that some peacocks and turtles were found dead in buffer area, following which a forest department team rushed to the spot and recovered the remains."
"The 12 peacocks included seven males and five females. Their carcasses were reportedly about two to seven days old. Prima facie, the carcasses indicated death by some disease. Exact cause of death can only be ascertained after the autopsy report is received," he said, adding that no evidence of illegal hunting or poisoning of the peacocks was found on the spot.
Meanwhile, the turtles were found dead near a waterbody in Dodi village at Bansi range in RVTR. "Prima facie, the turtles died due to suffocation. They also died in the last 2-5 days. Their bodies have also been sent for an autopsy and the report is awaited," he said.htc...
