Bharatpur, Aug. 14 -- Eleven people, including seven children, were killed and several others injured when a pickup truck carrying pilgrims rammed into a stationary container on National Highway-148 near Bapi village in Dausa district in the early hours of Wednesday, police said, adding that the accident occurred around 3.30am. Dausa superintendent of police, Sagar Rana said, "The victims, hailing from Etah and Firozabad districts of Uttar Pradesh, were returning from Khatu Shyam temple. Around 45 devotees from Asrauli village had travelled in two pickups for the pilgrimage. The mishap involved one of the vehicles, which was carrying over 22 passengers, mostly women and children." Ten people died on the spot, while one critically injured person succumbed at Jaipur's Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital, he said. Dr Anurag Dhakar from SMS Hospital said, "Around 10 injured, including three women and three children, were brought here. Of them, one woman, Seema Devi, died while her husband Manoj is in the ICU." Three patients have suffered head injuries, while one child is critical, Dhakar added. The deceased include Poorvi Rajput (3), Priyanka Devi (25), Daksh Rajput (12), Sheela Devi (35), Seema Devi (25), Anshu Rajput (26), and Saurabh Rajput (35), while four are unidentified. Four injured are being treated at Dausa district hospital, and seriously injured victims Lakshya Rajput (5), Naitik Rajput (6), Rita Devi (30), Nilesh Kumari (22), Priyanka Kumari (19), Saurabh Rajput (28), Manoj Rajput (28), and one other, have been admitted to SMS Hospital. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs.2 lakh for the victims' families. "Deeply saddened by the loss of lives in an accident in Dausa, Rajasthan. Condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. An ex-gratia of Rs.2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs.50,000," he said in a post on X. Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma called the accident "extremely tragic" in a post on X. "The news of loss of life in a horrific road accident in Dausa is extremely tragic. The district administration has been directed to ensure prompt and proper treatment for the injured. May God grant a place at His divine feet to the departed souls and provide speedy recovery to the injured," he said....
