Jaipur, Sept. 10 -- Rajasthan has reported a surge of Lumpy Skin Disease, which has infected at least 10,000 cows and caused the death of six cows, prompting the animal husbandry department to cancel leaves of its officials in a bid to contain the disease. The viral disease which has returned after a gap of four years is mainly concentrated in Bharatpur, Deeg, Dholpur and Karauli. Of the 10,000 cows infected so far, 5,500 are active cases, the department said. Suresh Meena, director of the department said: "Guidelines have been issued. All cattle are to be vaccinated. We are using a new heterologous vaccine which is very effective. All the healthy cattle will be given the vaccine while the infected ones are being treated with drugs..."htc...
