Ajmer, April 29 -- Railway police in Ajmer have busted an inter-state 'Bawri gang', which targets train passengers and crowds for jewellery thefts, and arrested a woman suspect and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs.1.80 lakh, officers said. Acting on technical inputs and CCTV surveillance, the Government Railway Police arrested the woman on April 27. Station house officer GRP Foolchand identified her as Aarti, 21, from Industrial Area Basti in Falna, Pali district. "She allegedly belongs to an organised gang that travels across states, striking at trains, railway stations, and crowded religious gatherings," he said. During interrogation, Aarti revealed several accomplices, prompting police teams to launch a search operation for the remaining members. Police found the gang targeted passengers on train journeys and in busy public places, stealing jewellery and valuables before switching off mobile phones to dodge tracking.
