India, Sept. 4 -- S iddharth Gupta, who played Lord Krishna in the film Krishnavataram Part 1: Hridayam this year, says the role has had a personal impact on him beyond the film. On Janmashtami today, he speaks about the process of "becoming Krishna" and how it helps him navigate some of his own struggles. "More than playing him, it is the process of becoming Krishna that has had a bigger influence. Earlier, I was having difficulty coping with the pace of life and where I am. But when you prepare and play a character like Krishna, you get all your answers," he shares. One of his biggest learnings, he says, has been the idea of focusing on one's actions rather than the outcome. "'Karm kar, phal ki chinta mat kar' is heard a lot, but to understand what it means is to truly practice it. When you give your best, results go out the window because you did all you could. You should not stress about the result," he says. The 32-year-old adds, "I ended up learning how to be a karma yogi, learnt the virtue of doing, and also how to seek pleasure in the process and not the result." Playing Krishna has also changed the way Gupta is perceived by audiences since the film's release. Recalling his experiences during theatre visits, he says, "Men and women from different walks of life would cry and try to touch my feet after watching the film. That kind of sparkle in people's eyes made me see Krishna in them and the love they have for Krishna. The sense of respect they have for me has been unreal... I am grateful for it," he shares. Janmashtami has been significant for Gupta since childhood, with his mother being a devoted follower of Lord Krishna. He recalls celebrating the festival with his family while growing up. "As kids, we used to create the idol of Krishna from wax and then paint it. I have broken dahi handi as a kid in my colony because everybody thought I looked like Lord Krishna. It's ironic that I ended up playing him," he says. With his family in Mumbai to celebrate with him this year, Gupta plans to make a Krishna idol himself. "My house is filled with idols and my family's already come here. I do have plans of making the idol for Lord Krishna from clay and paint it myself," he ends....
