Jaipur, May 9 -- Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Friday announced that the Rajasthan government will establish "Savitribai Phule E-Libraries" in every block of the state as part of a major push towards education, digital access and social empowerment inspired by social reformers Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule.
Addressing a program at Birla Auditorium on the occasion of the 200th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Sharma said the Phule couple played a historic role in social reform, women's education and nation-building.
He said Savitribai Phule, along with Jyotiba Phule, ignited the movement for women's education and social awareness at a time when society was deeply divided by discrimination and inequality.
Sharma said the state government, under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, is committed to women's education, empowerment and ensuring welfare schemes reach the last person in society. He urged the youth to draw inspiration from Mahatma Phule's life and actively participate in spreading awareness about government schemes among the public.
The chief minister said the Centre has decided to celebrate Mahatma Phule's 200th birth anniversary across the country for two years - from April 11, 2026 to April 11, 2028.
A high-level committee headed by the Prime Minister has been constituted for the celebrations. Sharma also congratulated Bhupendra Saini for being included in the committee.
Highlighting the state government's initiatives, Sharma said Rajasthan will celebrate the bicentenary in a grand manner across the state.
Sharma announced a series of initiatives in the name of Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule aimed at promoting education and social awareness across the state.
"Savitribai Phule E-Libraries will be established in every block of the state, while Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Model Schools will be opened in all districts. The government is also constructing 16 new buildings for Savitribai Phule hostels," he said.
Sharma added that the state has resolved to develop a panorama and library at Hindoli based on the life, struggles and contributions of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule.
Addressing members of the Mali community, he described the community's history as "glorious" and said its deep connection with agriculture and soil earned it the identity of "Dharti Putra" (sons of the soil).
He also announced that the state government will organise the "Global Rajasthan Agritech Meet (GRAM)-2026" in Jaipur from May 23 to 25 to promote modern and smart farming practices.
