Jaipur, June 18 -- Governor Haribhau Bagde on Wednesday said that if Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Maharana Pratap had lived during the same period, the course of Indian history would have been significantly different, as both leaders successfully challenged Mughal expansion through their courage, military skill and determination. Addressing a felicitation ceremony organised by the Bharatiya Kshatriya Mahasangh on the occasion of Maharana Pratap Jayanti, Bagde paid tribute to the legendary Mewar ruler and highlighted his role in defending the country's sovereignty and cultural identity. "Had Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Maharana Pratap existed in the same era, India's history would have taken a different turn. Both leaders thwarted the ambitions of Mughal invaders through their bravery, courage and military prowess," the Governor said. Referring to the Battle of Haldighati, Bagde said Maharana Pratap had demoralised the Mughal army and later launched a planned offensive that culminated in the Battle of Dewair, where Mughal forces were forced to surrender. Bagde also described Maharana Pratap as India's first freedom fighter.htc...
