Bikaner, Sept. 25 -- Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Thursday hit out at former CM Ashok Gehlot over Congress's performance in the recent urban local body elections, saying Gehlot should analyse the reasons behind the defeat instead of blaming others. Sharma claimed that Gehlot was upset after losing his own ward and was directing his anger towards Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee chief Govind Singh Dotasra. Sharma in Bikaner said the language of Gehlot's allegations had been changing depending on the circumstances. "When I was holding roadshows, he said the CM should not conduct roadshows. After losing elections, he tells the PCC chief that if the CM held roadshows, the PCC should also have done so," he said. The CM claimed that the real source of Gehlot's anger was the PCC chief and alleged that internal differences within the Congress were responsible for the party's performance. Sharma said the mandate in civic elections reflected public support for the BJP and credited party workers for the outcome. "He should analyse what went wrong instead of blaming others," he said, adding Congress's support base was continuing to shrink. Sharma also referred to the Congress's handling of the Bahujan Samaj Party after the 2018 assembly elections, saying Gehlot should "look within" before making allegations against others. He also took a swipe at the Gandhi family, alleging that Congress leaders were focused on launching their sons politically. Sharma also questioned Gehlot's criticism of the recent ward delimitation exercise. He asked why the previous Congress government had divided one municipal corporation into two when it was in power. The CM said the current government had constituted wards according to rules and pointed out that the wards had been in place for about a year. "If there was an issue, why was nothing said at that time?" he asked. Sharma's remarks came amid a continuing political confrontation between BJP government and Congress leaders over the conduct and outcome of urban local body elections. Gehlot and Dotasra alleged that the BJP government misused police, administrative machinery and money power during the process, allegations the BJP has rejected. Sharma was in Bikaner for the Seva Sankalp programme, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted virtually with participants of the service campaign. The campaign is being observed from September 17 to October 17, with the journey connecting Vadnagar, Modi's birthplace, with Varanasi, his political constituency and "karmabhoomi", according to Sharma. Modi spoke to participants from Beawar and Degana about their experiences. He also suggested adopting water-saving practices while planting trees in Rajasthan. Sharma said the Seva Sankalp campaign was aimed at taking the message of public service to people. He cited initiatives such as Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao, Swachh Bharat and Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, saying they had helped drive social and environmental campaigns. He said Rajasthan had launched the Hariyalo Rajasthan campaign inspired by Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam and had set a target of planting 50 crore saplings over five years. According to Sharma, around 28 crore saplings had been planted so far. Sharma said the state government was focusing on empowering four groups - youth, women, farmers and workers - and claimed that Rajasthan was moving towards energy self-sufficiency and supplying electricity to other states. Congress spokesperson Swarnim Chaturvedi said voters in Rajasthan had voted against the BJP in the municipal elections, claiming the party's vote share declined by 15 percentage points compared with the Lok Sabha elections and by 8 percentage points compared with the assembly elections. He said the difference in vote share between the BJP and Congress was only 0.9 percentage points.
