Gurugram, June 7 -- The Gurugram administration cleared around 250 structures from 9.5 acres of Tourism Department land in Sohna over nearly two-and-a-half days, officials said on Saturday. The reclaimed land, about a kilometre from Gurugram-Alwar Road, comprised two settlements - Peer Colony and Pahad Colony - with nearly 100 double or multi-storeyed buildings among the structures. Authorities found occupants lacked ownership documents, registered sale deeds, or any legally enforceable claims. The land had been subject to prolonged litigation. A sub-divisional magistrate court ruled in favour of the Tourism Department in 2018, with subsequent orders, including those passed in 2024, upholding the claim. The operation was supervised by RS Bhatt, district town planner (nodal officer), Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority, with teams from GMDA, the Tourism Department, Municipal Corporation, and Police Department. Nearly 200 police personnel were deployed under deputy commissioner of police (south) Hitesh Yadav. Residents were informed through prior meetings and public announcements; many removed belongings before the drive, avoiding confrontation. The administration deployed 10 earthmovers, two excavators, four water tankers, two fire tenders, and 80-100 labourers. Police identified around 15 properties allegedly linked to individuals with criminal backgrounds. No major law and order incidents were reported. The land has been returned to the Tourism Department....
