three booked for cheating to obtain Chaiti fair deal in Kashipur
Rudrapur, Sept. 4 -- Three people have been booked for allegedly using forged documents to obtain the contract to operate the Chaiti fair in Kashipur, police said.
According to police, the contractor allegedly submitted a fake solvency certificate worth Rs.50 lakh to participate in the bidding process and subsequently failed to deposit around Rs.1.30 crore of the contract amount into government accounts.
"We started a probe into the matter after registering an FIR against three persons. Action will be taken according to the findings of the investigation," said sub-inspector at ITI police station Arvind Bahuguna. The Chaiti fair, one of the prominent annual fairs of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, is held in Kashipur in Udham Singh Nagar district in April. The local administration invites bids for the operation of the fair, including allotment of land for shops and the provision of infrastructure and other facilities.
The bidding process for this year's fair was held on March 7, following which Dev Enterprises of Kashipur secured the contract for Rs.3.11 crore. htc...
