Students' protest triggers jams on Sohna Rd
Gurugram, Oct. 6 -- Hundreds of commuters were trapped on Sohna Road on Monday afternoon as a traffic jam stretched nearly three kilometres, leaving an ambulance stuck.
The congestion affected traffic from Sohna Road, Rajiv Chowk underpass and Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex junction towards Civil Lines and the district courts. Traffic police said the jam was triggered by a student protest outside the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) office.
Commuters said it took more than an hour to cross the Rajiv Chowk underpass, with tailbacks extending towards the mini secretariat.
"We hadn't moved in nearly 40 minutes," said a commuter going towards Old Gurugram. "The worst part was seeing an ambulance siren wailing right behind us with nowhere to go."
The ambulance remained stuck for nearly 40 minutes. Traffic police made diversions, taking nearly three hours to restore normal movement.
Earlier, multiple vehicles collided near the DHBVN office in Badshahpur around 9am, causing another jam on Sohna Road.
SIASTE students protested outside SCERT over the validity of their BA-BEd degrees, with the institute lacking mandatory NCTE recognition. Nearly 800 students are affected. The issue is before the Punjab and Haryana high court, which will hear the matter on October 13....
