Gurugram, Sept. 1 -- The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has repaired the damaged sewage pipeline at Iffco Chowk that caused a large sinkhole on a service road last week, officials said on Monday. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will now inspect the site and begin repairs to the damaged road. GMDA officials said around 10 metres of the damaged pipeline had been replaced at the sinkhole, while concrete was being applied to the surrounding area to support the drain. The authority will hand over the site to NHAI after inspecting the repairs, they added. A portion of the sewage pipeline collapsed on the Delhi-to-Jaipur side service lane at Iffco Chowk on Tuesday, creating a large sinkhole. The incident triggered panic among commuters and caused traffic congestion. Two service lanes of the highway were barricaded and have remained closed since. "The damaged pipeline has been replaced and we are now concreting the adjoining area. Around forty to fifty feet pipeline towards MG Road side has been repaired using the MWSL technology wherein plastic and iron cast is fixed inside the surface of the pipeline, which repairs and strengthens the drain. Another 50 feet of the pipeline will be repaired using Cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) technique as the drain has undulation at several spots," said a senior GMDA official, asking not to be named. NHAI officials said road repairs would begin after an inspection and were likely to take three to four days. "First the sinkhole will be filled with soil, which will be compacted. After that, substrate material will be filled and concrete work will be done on that. However, we will first ensure that there is no chance of any leakage underneath the road," said an NHAI official, requesting anonymity....
