Sinkhole, cave in develop on Sec 61-62 master road
Gurugram, July 10 -- A 300-metre stretch of the service road along the Sector 61-62 master dividing road caved in over the past two days after heavy rain lashed Gurugram on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The road, opposite Ullahwas village, also developed a sinkhole measuring around 10 feet by 15 feet on Tuesday, leading to the road cave ins, rendering the entire stretch unusable.
According to residents, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) had constructed around two kilometres of the service road nearly two months ago. Locals said the road began to sink on Tuesday evening after a large volume of rainwater accumulated on the stretch. Vikas Kumar, who works at a shop along the service road, said the damage began after Tuesday's heavy rain.
"The sinkhole appeared on Tuesday evening after severe waterlogging on the road. The water seeped beneath the sewage drain," he said. Residents said at least 100 shops located along the damaged stretch have been affected. GMDA chief engineer Pravin Chaudhary said the stretch was barricaded to prevent vehicular movement and would be repaired soon.
