Residents protest over 2-way traffic on Galleria, Vyapar Kendra roads
Gurugram, Oct. 30 -- Residents of Sector 43, Sector 27 and Sushant Lok-1 protested on Thursday against a proposal to introduce two-way traffic on Galleria Market Road and Vyapar Kendra Road, alleging that ongoing modifications had blocked access points and forced motorists to take detours.
More than 100 residents gathered at the Sector 43 entrance, said Raj Kumar Yadav, president of the sector's residents' welfare association. Both roads have followed a one-way system since 2014, according to residents. They demanded that the one-way arrangement be retained.
Protesters said dividers installed along Vyapar Kendra Road had blocked the entrance to Sector 43, inconveniencing motorists travelling towards Golf Course Road or between Sectors 43 and 27. They also warned that two-way traffic could worsen congestion on Galleria Market Road, which serves a busy market and a school.
"The entry point to Sector 43 has been closed and it has created a major problem for residents," Yadav said. He said drivers were taking longer routes and facing frequent traffic jams.
Although the proposed system has not formally begun, residents said some motorists had started using the roads in both directions, adding to confusion.
Rajeshwari Rao, a Sushant Lok-1 resident, launched an online petition opposing the changes. She said longer commutes were increasing vehicle emissions.
A senior Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) official said the authority had installed dividers and bollards under the road-upgradation contract.
"The final decision on movement of traffic will be taken by the authorities after doing a traffic survey and a consultation with the traffic police," the official said. The study would also consider local residents' and RWAs' views, the official added.
Responding to complaints about blocked access, the official said four crossing points remained open on Vyapar Kendra Road, with U-turns allowed at both ends....
