Man, son die of suffocation in 'pickle well' in north Delhi
New Delhi, March 8 -- A 60-year-old man and his 32-year-old son died of suffocation on Saturday morning after entering a 10-foot-deep well used for drying and fermenting pickles inside their house in north Delhi's Nangloi, police said.
The deceased were identified as Anil Ram and Neeraj. A worker and Ram's younger son Sandeep, 28, fell sick and are under treatment, officers said.
Deputy commissioner of police (outer) Vikram Singh said the house owner runs a pickle-making factory on the ground floor and lives with his family on the first floor. "There is a pickle making factory on the ground floor of the house. There are four to five wells, of about 10 feet depth, in which the pickle is made," he said.
Police said a worker fell unconscious while retrieving pickles. Ram and his sons entered to rescue him but collapsed. Ram and Neeraj were declared dead at Sanjay Gandhi hospital. Police said the matter is under investigation.HTC...
