Haridwar, Aug. 5 -- The Haridwar district administration has expedited the transformation of Kumbh Mela reserve land at Bairagi Camp into the principal parking and transit hub for the Dak Kanwar phase of the ongoing Shravan Kanwar Mela, officials said. As of Tuesday, over 12.5 million Kanwariyas have arrived in Haridwar, they said. Bairagi Camp lies adjacent to National Highway-58, around 2.5 kilometres from Har-ki-Pauri ghat and boasts connections to key pilgrim routes. Traditionally, the reserve land houses camps for akharas and other religious organisations during the Kumbh Mela. A huge influx of vehicle-borne pilgrims is expected between August 6 and 11. District magistrate Mayur Dixit said the administration was making all arrangements necessary to provide a safe and convenient environment for devotees. "Arrangements for levelled parking, drinking water, electricity, toilets, medical facilities, sanitation and proper signages are being completed on priority," he said. Officials said the camp was capable of accommodating over 20,000 vehicles at a time, making it one of the largest temporary parking facilities created for the Kanwar Mela. The administration is also building barricades and setting up designated entry and exit points to regulate traffic flow. Potable water stand posts, temporary drainage channels and sanitation facilities are being installed. Authorities have also set up a dedicated control room to oversee security management, traffic regulation, information sharing and emergency response. Medical camps equipped with doctors, paramedics and ambulances are also being established at the site.
