New Delhi, June 17 -- Six states agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding for the long-pending 422MW Kishau Dam project on the Tons river, a Yamuna tributary, in a meeting chaired by Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday. The dam, proposed on the Uttarakhand-Himachal Pradesh border at an estimated cost of Rs.15,000 crore, has remained stuck for over eight years over cost-sharing disagreements. The Centre will fund 90% of the water component cost, with the remaining 10% shared by Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Himachal Pradesh agreed to transfer its water allocation to Delhi, Rajasthan and Haryana in lieu of contributing to the power component. Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said his government had opposed the previous administration's commitment of Rs.800 crore.
