GMDA, HSIIDC to concretise Badshahpur Drain at Rs.370cr
Gurugram, April 4 -- The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) plan to concretise a six-kilometer stretch of the Badshahpur drain, the city's main stormwater outlet from Gadoli to the Najafgarh drain, officials said on Friday.
"HSIIDC will concretise a three-kilometer stretch, while GMDA is formulating a plan to concretise the remaining three kilometers," said Vikram Singh, executive engineer at GMDA.
According to officials, HSIIDC has planned the concretisation in view of its Global City project along the Dwarka Expressway.
The corporation has also planned to construct a load-bearing road on the drain, which would be utilised for vehicular traffic, officials added.
"HSIIDC has prepared an estimate of around Rs.170 crore for the concretisation work and sought approval from GMDA," said an official aware of the matter. Similarly, a GMDA consultant has also prepared a cost estimate of around Rs.200 crore for the other 3-km segment and has submitted it to the GMDA for review, the official added.
"The detailed project report (DPR) prepared by the consultant is being reviewed and once approved, the process of inviting tenders will begin. Once the drain is concretised, the problem of overflowing and foul smell due to the sewage water will be resolved," the official said.
GMDA officials added that concretising the drain will also ensure that illegal cuts can not be made easily to pump sewage water into the drain.
Badshahpur drain is the city's crucial stormwater drain. Starting from the Ghata irrigation dam to Vatika Chowk on Sohna road, it is called the Khost Drain; thereafter, it is called the Badshahpur drain.
It passes through Golf Course Extension Road, SPR, Hero Honda Chowk, Khandsa village and industrial area, Gadholi Khurd, and empties into the Najafgarh drain....
