A senior police officer said, Vivek was on way to his office on a motorcycle when the incident took place on Balaji College Road at 10.25 am. The suspect was riding a motorcycle with a woman as a pillion rider.
"He was driving rashly and he suddenly came in front of Vivek while trying to overtake him on the busy road. Vivek stopped and scolded the suspect for driving irresponsibly," he said.
"He suddenly pulled out a pistol and opened fire but I managed to survive. He tried to shoot me again but I was able to snatch his pistol and tried to overpower him," Vivek told police.
Vivek said that the suspect and the woman fell on the road and fled from the spot on foot.
