Dehradun, Aug. 2 -- Uttarakhand chief electoral officer (CEO) BVRC Purushottam on Saturday directed district magistrates to ensure voters get adequate opportunity to respond to notices issued during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, and asked officials to prioritise voter convenience during hearings. Reviewing the exercise through a video conference with district magistrates of all 13 districts, Purushottam said the next three weeks should focus entirely on the notice and hearing phase. He asked district magistrates to remain in the field as much as possible and prepare field visit rosters so senior officials regularly interact with voters and monitor hearings. "If a voter is unable to appear for a scheduled hearing due to any reason, adequate opportunity should be provided by fixing another date with sufficient time," he said, adding that the objective was to facilitate eligible voters rather than create procedural hurdles. The CEO also directed district administrations to hold meetings with political parties at least twice a week to seek feedback, including from registered parties beyond those recognised. Senior officials from the CEO's office will undertake district-wise field visits to assess implementation and obtain feedback from voters. Additional chief electoral officer Vijay Kumar Jogdande instructed electoral registration officers (EROs) to coordinate closely with assistant EROs and booth level officers (BLOs). He said special attention should be given to polling stations where more than 100 notices have been issued to ensure timely hearings and disposal of cases. Joint chief electoral officer Prakash Chandra Dumka directed EROs to continue cluster-level training programmes for BLO supervisors and BLOs to ensure uniform implementation. Meanwhile, the Dehradun Mahanagar Congress Committee submitted a memorandum to district magistrate and district election officer Ashish Chauhan, seeking greater transparency and an extension of the deadline for replying to SIR notices. A delegation led by Mahanagar Congress president Dr Jaswinder Singh Gogi sought assembly-wise and polling station-wise lists of voters served notices, saying this would help political parties and public representatives reach affected voters and assist them....
