Rudrapur, May 4 -- A one-tusked elephant has become a deadly menace to residents along the Tanda forest range in Kumaon, trampling three people to death-including an elderly woman-in just three days, forest officials said. The animal also attacked a tempo loaded with wheat sacks on Saturday, forcing the occupants to flee. No injuries were reported, but the elephant damaged the consignment. "We are monitoring the movement of the elephant round-the-clock to prevent human-animal conflict. Patrolling has been intensified and teams are using public address systems to warn people against venturing into forest areas," said Roop Narayan Gautam, ranger of Tanda forest range under the Terai Central Forest Division. The Tanda forest range spans parts of Udham Singh Nagar and Nainital districts, where elephant presence is significant.
