New Delhi, June 9 -- New DelhiA Delhi court on Monday denied bail to Keshav Negi, the chef arrested in connection with the fire at the Flourish Stay bed-and-breakfast facility in Hauz Rani that killed 22 people last week, even as police arrested the property's accountant, Jay Mishra, after he surrendered before a court. Judicial magistrate first class Bhanu Pratap Singh of Saket courts held that Negi had shown "gross negligence" by allegedly failing to alert guests or authorities after the fire broke out in the kitchen and by prioritising his own escape. The court sent him to 14 days' judicial custody. Police alleged that Negi, 65, was among the first to flee the building after the blaze erupted. He allegedly told investigators that he noticed a fire in an oil fryer while cooking on the ground floor. By the time he spotted it, the fire had spread beyond control. He fled the building after informing manager Rupesh, who is currently absconding. Negi's lawyers argued that a chef could not be held responsible for guest safety or evacuation and contended that the fire was triggered by an electrical short circuit that melted LPG pipes. They said he acted prudently by switching off power connections and informing the manager. Meanwhile, Mishra, 34, was arrested after surrendering in court and remanded to two days' police custody. Police said documents issued by the Delhi government's tourism department list Mishra as the owner of the B&B, even though police maintain that the property owner is Lavkesh Bajaj, who was arrested earlier and whose custody was extended by two days on Monday. Police said Mishra's interrogation is crucial to establish why he was shown as the owner in official records. He is the third person arrested in the case. Police have approached IIT-Delhi to conduct a study of the building to determine how the fire spread so rapidly and identify structural deficiencies that may have contributed to the scale of the tragedy....
