New Delhi, Sept. 15 -- With Delhi's winter pollution season weeks away, on-ground work on the Multi-Lane Free Flow barrier-free toll system for commercial vehicles at border entry points, sought by the Supreme Court, is yet to begin, raising concerns over toll queues and vehicular emissions. A Municipal Corporation of Delhi official said a survey of nine major border points was conducted last week, but development awaits nod from National Highways Authority of India. Pending work includes Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras, gantries, power systems, networking, sensors, software integration and trials. On December 17 last year, the Supreme Court directed MCD to consider temporarily closing or shifting nine toll plazas. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant remarked, "Why can't the officials say that till January, there will be no toll plaza?" The points are Tikri Border, Singhu, Kapashera, Aya Nagar, Badarpur, Apsara-Shahdara, New Mandoli, Ghazipur and Rajokri.Officials said installation could take three-four months.
