4 die as pickup van, tractor collide
Haldwani, Oct. 19 -- Four people were killed and one was injured after a collision between a tractor trolley and a pickup vehicle on Nanakmatta-Khatima road in Nanakmatta area of Udham Singh Nagar on Saturday morning, police officers aware of the matter said.
Police identified the deceased as Akhilesh, Sheeshpal Singh, Gurmukh - all residents of Amroha in Uttar Pradesh- and Jayveer, resident of Sambhal in UP.
Sambhal resident Jayveer, who was injured in the accident is currently undergoing treatment at Khatima government hospital, police said.
According to the police, they received information at around 9.10 am about the accident near Nanaksagar Dam bridge. Upon receiving the information, they said they rushed to the spot.
Umesh Kumar, station house officer (SHO) at Nanakmatta Police station, said, "At around 9.10 am, the Pratappur outpost received information that an accident occurred near Nanaksagar Dam bridge, about 2.3km from the outpost. Upon receiving this information, the police team went to the spot and found that an accident occurred between a pickup vehicle (registration number) UP22 BT 4229 and a tractor trolley. Five people were injured in this incident, who were sent to the government hospital, Khatima through the police station's 112 vehicle and 108, NH ambulance with the help of the general public."
"Two of them, Akhilesh and Jayveer, were declared dead by doctors at the Khatima hospital, while Gurmukh and Sheeshpal were rushed to Sushila Tiwari hospital in Haldwani, where they died of their injuries," he said, adding that the bodies have been sent for postmortem examination....
