3 killed, ten injured in bus-van collision in Bareilly
MEERUT, Oct. 19 -- Three people were killed and ten others injured in a collision between a bus and a van, reportedly caused by an overtaking attempt, late Friday night on Bisalpur Road within the Bhuta police station limits of Bareilly district. The accident occurred near Mirchi Dhaba when a van carrying passengers from Bareilly to Bisalpur crashed into an oncoming bus. The impact of the collision was so intense that the van was completely crushed, trapping several passengers inside. Upon receiving the alert, police and fire brigade teams from Bareilly immediately reached the spot. The injured were rushed to the district hospital by ambulance, while the bodies of the deceased were sent for postmortem examination.
According to additional superintendent of police Anshika Verma, the van was carrying 13 passengers, including the driver. The driver and one passenger died on the spot. Another victim succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital, while two others remain in critical condition.
Police have seized both vehicles. The bus driver, however, fled from the spot immediately after the incident. No passengers were found inside the bus at the time of inspection.
