18 flyovers planned to ease Delhi traffic
New Delhi, April 19 -- In a citywide plan to ease congestion and improve traffic movement, 18 flyovers and corridor projects on key routes across the Capital are under planning and feasibility assessment stages, Public Works Department (PWD) minister Parvesh Verma said on Saturday.
Verma said the government has begun a comprehensive assessment of key traffic hot spots and congestion-prone junctions.
"We are closely examining each location to understand the real causes of congestion and identify what solution will actually work on the ground, whether it requires a flyover, an underpass, or an elevated corridor. Detailed project reports are being prepared for 18 such locations. Once completed, we will move quickly towards approvals and begin construction in a time-bound manner," he said.
A primary focus is a 55-km elevated road over Mahatma Gandhi Marg on the Ring Road, covering Ashram, Lajpat Nagar, Moolchand, Green Park and Dhaula Kuan. A 20-km corridor along Munak Canal extending UER-II toward Narela Metro station is also being planned.
A 7-km feasibility study covers Deshbandhu Gupta Road roundabout near Paharganj to Ajmeri Gate, while 4-km interventions are planned at Shadipur Depot and ITO, PWD officials said.
Other proposals include a 6-km elevated corridor to Tronica City, a 2.20-km corridor from Zakhira crossing to Karampura flyover, a 2-km flyover near IGI Airport, a 1-km rail overbridge at Sukhi Nahar in Kirari, and a 20-km corridor from NH-48 near Kapashera.
A 10.70-km flyover from Kanjhawala Chowk to Mangolpuri has tenders invited, while a 4.30-km flyover from Sagarpur to Mayapuri Chowk and a Janakpuri Pankha Road flyover remain under feasibility study....
