150 homestays deregistered in Nainital district
Haldwani, June 1 -- The Nainital district administration has cancelled the registrations of 150 homestays and imposed fines on 55 others after inspections revealed violations of the state's homestay policy, officials said on Sunday.
Following several complaints regarding irregularities, a joint team of the district administration along with the tourism department had conducted month-long inspections across the area.
Lalit Mohan Rayal, District Magistrate of Nainital, said, "In many cases, owners were not residing in the homestays. Some units lacked parking facilities, while others were being run as restaurants or hotels with hired staff. Several owners had also leased out their homestays, which is a violation," he said. While 55 establishments were fined Rs.10,000 each, action was also initiated against 94 units in Nainital, 20 in Ramnagar, 19 in Dhari, seven in Kainchi Dham, and five each in Haldwani and Kaladhungi....
