'Dug-up road impacting Sec 59 access'
Gurugram, July 7 -- Residents have raised concerns over the ongoing sewer laying work on the revenue road in Sector 59, the only road connecting four residential condos to the main road. With the stretch dug up for nearly a month, residents said daily commute has become difficult.
They said the revenue road has been dug up without any prior intimation from the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG).
"While we are not against civic development works, the manner in which the project is being executed is shoddy. Residents have been cut off from the rest of the city," said Leena Sarkar Ali, a resident of Tata Raisina Residency.
She said deep pits for laying pipelines have not been properly barricaded, posing a serious risk to commuters and workers. "We heard that one of the workers even fell into one of the pits. With nearly half the road dug up and deep pits left exposed, it is extremely dangerous for commuters to travel," she added.
Residents added that the biggest concern is that emergency vehicles such ambulance or fire tenders cannot pass through the revenue road. "The revenue road is already narrow, and with half of it dug up, movement has become extremely difficult for vehicles," said Nitin Vaid, another resident.
They added that school buses are unable to enter the road to drop children. "We have to drop our children off at the main road daily. Children cannot walk through the road as it remains muddy, and there is no proper pedestrian pathway," said Swati Sharma, another resident.
Rachita Sarkar said that taxis and app-based cabs are refusing to enter the stretch. "There are times when I get late from the office, but cabs now refuse to come inside because of the road condition. Taking bike taxis is also risky as the road is muddy. There are no streetlights either, making it unsafe, especially for women," she added.
An MCG official said the work will be completed soon and acknowledged that no prior intimation had been given to residents. "The work will be completed soon. Our team will visit the site and conduct an inspection. If we find that barricading has not been done properly, directions will be issued and penalties will be imposed on the contractor," the official cited above told HT, asking not to be named....
