n unusual moment at the ongoing US Open sparked widespread outrage after a grown man was caught on camera snatching a cap meant for a young fan.
The incident took place after Polish player Kamil Majchrzak's upset win over No. 9 seed Karen Khachanov on Thursday. As Majchrzak greeted fans, he removed his cap to hand it to a boy waiting eagerly in the stands. But before the child could grab it, a man bent down, grabbed the cap, stuffed it in his bag, and casually walked off, leaving the boy stunned.
The clip went viral, with netizens branding the man a "cap thief". "Shame on that guy stealing from a child," one user wrote, while others demanded he be banned from future matches.
Majchrzak later addressed the controversy, admitting he hadn't noticed what happened in the moment. The 29-year-old appealed on Instagram to help identify the boy, assuring fans he had "plenty more to give away".
