India, July 31 -- A Gurugram-based food content creator, whose Instagram video about charging her husband Rs.1,000 for every cafe-style meal crossed 1.2 million views, says the arrangement has been widely misunderstood. Sharing her views, Priya (@priya_whatscooking) says, "For us, it was about appreciating invisible work." The video drew mixed reactions online, with some calling her "materialistic". However, Priya says the idea began as a light-hearted conversation after she and her husband married in 2023 and discussed sharing household responsibilities. "My husband said, 'I'd happily spend Rs.1,000 on this at a cafe. I'd rather pay you,'" she tells us. A former fashion designer who now creates healthy recipe content, Priya says the gesture recognises the time, effort and creativity that goes into cooking. The Rs.1,000 transfers, she adds, stay within the family and are being saved to help fund her business. "If they eventually help me build the sandwich business I'm dreaming about, they've served a much bigger purpose than just paying for a meal," she concludes....
