India, Sept. 21 -- Traditional floral swirls and heavy paisleys are stepping aside this festive season as Gen Z swaps classic henna for street-style art. Taking over social feeds is leopard print mehendi, with some #leopardprintmehendi videos crossing 3.4 million views on Instagram. For many, it's the perfect mix of tradition and personal style. "I've never really been a mehendi person, but I've always loved experimenting with art," says influencer Karishma Hinduja, adding, "Cheetah print was trending, and since I love animal prints, I thought it would be fun to try. I wanted something minimal, artistic, and different." Mehendi artists are also seeing the shift. "We've seen a rising demand for these Gen Z-style designs over the past year, especially during festive and bridal seasons," says celebrity mehendi artist Sona Mistry, adding, "Henna is no longer just a traditional ritual; it has become a form of self-expression." For a sharper stain, West Delhi-based artist Prem recommends dabbing lemon juice mixed with sugar over the dry paste and avoiding water for 8-12 hours after scraping it off.
