Street vendor schools internet on respect and relationships
India, May 25 -- A
local street vendor is winning hearts online after sharing his candid views on gender equality in a viral street interview. In a recent Reel by content creator Sonali Singh, the vendor, who sells crocheted flowers, criticised men who treat wives like domestic help or lose interest in them after pregnancy-related physical changes.
"Respecting women is a character thing," Singh captioned the Reel, which has garnered over 4.8 million views and 568K likes.
In the video, Singh asks the vendor whether women are oppressed. Agreeing instantly, he remarks that people today are more focused on appearances and social media validation. A text overlay in the Reel reads, "An educated English-speaking man might have said no."
The vendor goes on to say that many women are still expected to handle all household chores because husbands continue treating domestic work as solely a woman's responsibility. He also calls out men who cheat on their wives after childbirth, saying such behaviour reflects a shallow obsession with looks and little understanding of the physical impact of pregnancy.
"Wo pyaar kahaan gaya?" he asks in the clip, questioning why love should disappear if someone changes physically over time.
The vendor's honesty and articulation have struck a chord online. "Money cannot buy class, and this is one of the classiest men I've seen on the internet," one user commented, while another wrote, "Spitting truth. He is really a man."
In the comments section, Singh revealed that she met the vendor while interviewing another man who claimed men and women could never be equal. According to Singh, the vendor overheard her disagreeing with that opinion, approached her after the interview, and began sharing his own progressive views. "He was so happy to do it, and he was not performative at all," she wrote.
