India, July 19 -- Sameera Reddy marked her return to acting after over a decade this year with Aakhri Sawal. While she has been confident in flaunting her white hair and changing body over the last few years, the actor recently opened up on the beauty standards she was made to fit in initially in her career. Recalling her debut film Main Dil Tujhko Diya in 2002, Reddy told Hauterrfly that she was pressured to conform to a "typical heroine" look, which included using foundation to make her look fairer than her natural skin tone. "I was made two to three shades lighter. I almost looked gray!" she shared, adding that she had to apply full-body makeup to match the colour of her face to her body. The 47-year-old highlighted how the industry's arbitrary definition of beauty has a broader societal impact: "Do you know how many women have it in their own families? Her own parents and in-laws say, 'You're dark or fat.' What the hell! Who has given the definition of beauty?" Reddy also opened up on nearly two decades of struggle where she was made to hide her natural appearance using "padded bras, bum pads, and coloured lenses." She shared that designers often pressured her about her figure, asking, "How much can we try with the pads, Sameera? Just do something about it."
