Pujara retires; fans say, 'streets won't forget you'
India, Aug. 25 -- Cheteshwar Pujara on Sunday announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The veteran batter, who last played for India in the 2023 World Test Championship final, shared an emotional note on social media, calling it an "indescribable honour" to wear the Indian jersey, and said he's stepping away with gratitude.
"Wearing the Indian jersey, singing the anthem, and trying my best each time I stepped on the field - it's impossible to put into words what it truly meant. But as they say, all good things must come to an end, and with immense gratitude I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket. Thank you for all the love and support," he wrote on X.
The 37-year-old retires as India's eighth-highest run-scorer in Test cricket, with 7,195 runs at an average of 43.60, including 19 centuries and 35 fifties. Debuting in 2010, he represented India in 103 Tests and 5 ODIs.
