Prakash Raj gets bail in 2019 voter registration discrepancy case
India, July 12 -- A Bengaluru court on Friday granted bail to actor and former independent Lok Sabha candidate Prakash Raj in a case alleging voter registration discrepancies during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The 61-year-old is accused of being registered as a voter in multiple states and failing to disclose this in his election affidavit. With bail granted, the case will now proceed to trial.

In his election affidavit, Raj declared his voter registration in Bengaluru's Shantinagar Assembly constituency. But as per the complaint filed the same year by Bengaluru resident K Dileep Kumar, Raj was also registered in Velachery, Chennai, and Serilingampally, Telangana, during the same period.
Sections 17 and 18 of the RPA prohibit registration in more than one constituency. Sections 31 and 125A deal with false declarations and false affidavits, respectively.
