India, Nov. 20 -- O n Tuesday morning, reality TV personality Shiv Thakare narrowly escaped a fire that broke out in his Mumbai apartment after a short circuit in the living room. Still shaken, he recalls, "For the first 10 seconds, I didn't understand anything, main kuch samajh hi nahin paaya ki hua kya. I immediately called my friends and the fire brigade, and they reached within minutes." Shiv says the blaze was contained to the living room, but the building's safety systems failed at a crucial moment. "It's considered a good society, but na siren baja, na paani aaya. They said there was a technical issue. Thankfully, the fire didn't reach the bedroom. My nani usually sits in the hall, Bappa ki kripa hai she's in the village right now." He adds that he had filed multiple complaints about electrical issues in the building. "Management is blaming the builder, and the builder has backed out completely. Residents told them kab se complaints de rahe hain. Ab kya kisi ke marne ke baad hi sunenge? They claim the fire alarm rings only when the fire is 'more intense'. I asked them, aur kitni intense? What if someone had been inside?" With his flat now unlivable, Shiv has temporarily shifted to a friend's home. "I've shortlisted a few places and will have to finalise something urgently. Family bhi tension mein aa gayi, my sister has come down," he says....
