India, Aug. 8 -- K arol Bagh's Ajmal Khan Road, long known among shoppers for selling duplicate versions of branded products, has come under the scanner of Delhi High Court. The court, on Thursday, directed Delhi Police to take action against the sale of counterfeit goods that violate the vendors' Certificates of Vending. The court's order covers the stretch between Karol Bagh Police Station and Karol Bagh Metro Station, which was declared a no-vending and no-hawking zone in 2020. The issue surfaced during the HC's hearing of a plea by 24 street vendors who had earlier alleged harassment by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi after the latter produced photographs of alleged counterfeit branded products. The order has left many street vendors upset, who believe they are being unfairly singled out. "Humari rozi roti hai yeh, ekdum se kaise band kar dein? Dilli ki har popular market mein fake maal bikta hai, toh sirf humein hi kyun mana karein? " says Raminder, who sells duplicate branded apparel. Many shoppers, however, support the court's direction. Vanshika Kumar, a Delhi-based medical student, says, "Markets across Delhi have become so chaotic due to these vendors. It's high time to set an example." Delhi-based lifestyle content creator Karishma Gaur also believes that focusing on just one market is unfair. "Shoppers have been going to Karol Bagh, Sarojini Nagar markets and others specifically to buy replicas of big brands for years now. So to single out one market is unfair," she says....
