India, May 3 -- After becoming a globally recognised name with web series The Boys, Kiwi actor Karl Urban is now stepping into another massive pop-culture universe. He will be seen in the upcoming film Mortal Kombat II, based on the iconic video game franchise. For the actor, the project comes with a personal connection that began at home. "I've actually spent a fair bit of time with Mortal Kombat before this film came along," the 53-year-old shares, adding that his sons, Hunter, 25, and Indiana, 20, introduced him to the game in a new way. "We picked out the video game console the other day and started playing this. We'd sit down and play together, and it became this fun, slightly competitive ritual at home. They'd beat me more often than I'd like to admit." Those sessions helped him understand why the franchise has endured for decades: "You realise very quickly that it's not just a game, it's a shared experience. There's something incredibly bonding about it." Having been part of fan-favourite franchises, the actor understands the weight of stepping into worlds that already have loyal audiences. "When you're part of something like The Boys or now Mortal Kombat, you're stepping into a space that already belongs to the them," he says. Speaking about the fan base in India, Karl says, "The level of excitement from Indian fans is on another level. There's an intensity and warmth there that's hard to describe. You feel it immediately, whether it's through social media or just the conversations around these projects."...
