India, Aug. 9 -- An original masterwork created by Indian jeweller BHAGAT, one of the world's most influential contemporary jewellery artists, has been acquired by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, USA, as part of its permanent collection. The one-of-a-kind Sandstone and Diamond Brooch designed by Viren Bhagat who runs the brand with his sons, Varun and Jay, blends Indian Mughal era architecture with European Art Deco jewellery design. Crafted in Mumbai over eleven months, the brooch features a 2.5mm-thick slice of red sandstone sourced from Rajasthan, hand-carved into a Mughal arch, pierced by a precise diamond-set platinum flower motif. This marks the third time a major international museum has acquired BHAGAT's work, following similar acquisitions by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston in 2024 and London's Victoria and Albert Museum in 2025. Viren Bhagat says: " I have always been inspired by the richness of Indian architectural history and have a special affection for the colour and texture of red sandstone. It was a fascinating challenge to create a precious jewel using this humble material."
