How NOT to get swept away in a new romance: Expert suggests what to avoid
India, Oct. 4 -- Developing strong feelings in the early stages of dating can often lead to heartbreak. To help break this habit, therapist and couples counsellor Jeff Guenther recently took to Instagram to share five rules to follow.
In this rule, Jeff cautions against getting attached to a person's idealised version they have conjured. If your partner doesn't express the feelings, they should not be assumed.
This does not mean creating an ick list, but only acknowledging the flaws and imperfections that make them human.
Jeff suggests not making future plans "until you've seen them tired, wrong, stressed, hangry, hurt, disappointed."
Jeff explains that the urge to cancel on a friend can be an early measurable sign of becoming more attached.
