India, Aug. 12 -- For 15-year-old Lucky Rawat, the discipline he learnt on the judo mat has taken him from the quiet hills of Chakrata, Uttarakhand, to the North Pole. This International Youth Day, the young judoka is aboard the Russian nuclear-powered icebreaker 50 Let Pobedy, sailing towards the North Pole as the only Indian among 22 students selected worldwide for the 10-day Icebreaker of Knowledge expedition, concluding on August 14. The selection process was highly competitive. Students had to clear a three-stage test, after which one from each participating country was chosen to represent their nation. For the class X student at Sapience School, Vikasnagar, Uttarakhand, judo proved crucial: "It is a combat sport, and I feel the selection process was also like a combat. It needs discipline, but more importantly, the will to compete and not give up. I think what I have learnt as a judoka helped me through the selection."...
