India, Aug. 13 -- On Wednesday, South Korean actor Ha Young, recently seen in the show Our Sticky Love, took to Instagram and issued a public apology following mounting controversy over her great-grandfather's pro-Japanese activities during Japan's colonial rule of Korea, which lasted from 1910 to 1945, as per The Korea Times. This comes at a sensitive time in South Korea, with National Liberation Day approaching on August 15. She posted a picture of her handwritten letter a day after her agency acknowledged that her great-grandfather Ahn Sang-ho (1872-1927) was a member of an organisation that allegedly took part in pro-Japanese activities. "I had only partially known about my great-grandfather's life through stories told by my family," she wrote (translated from Korean), adding, "I am ashamed that despite my ignorance, I had spoken on many occasions about him as a source of family pride. I believe the fact that I had not known about it cannot be an excuse for disregarding or lightly considering that history. I take that mistake heavily, and as a descendant, I am sincerely sorry." Ha Young's family history came to light last week on the talk show, Problem Child in House, where she revealed that her great-grandfather studied Western medicine in Japan and that medicine runs four generations deep in her family. This sparked scrutiny of Ahn's colonial-era activities.
