India, March 28 -- W hen it comes to hair care, most people focus on what they apply, be it chemical products or DIY home remedies. But experts say what you eat may matter just as much, if not more. In a recent Instagram post, celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar highlighted the role of everyday foods in strengthening hair from within. She also cautioned against restrictive diets, noting that cutting out key food groups, especially carbohydrates, can contribute to hair fall rather than prevent it. Here's what she recommends: Rice should remain a daily staple, Diwekar says, regardless of weight-loss goals. According to her, it supports overall health, which directly reflects in hair quality. Fruits rich in Vitamin C, such as amla, guava and mango, help improve iron absorption and boost haemoglobin levels. This, in turn, supports better hair density, strength and shine. Dals like moong, arhar and chawli are packed with amino acids, vitamin B and fibre. These nutrients play a key role in strengthening hair and reducing unexplained hair fall. Halim seeds, when consumed in traditional forms like laddoos or kheer, can support hair and skin health due to their folic acid content. However, Diwekar advises against consuming them raw with water, especially first thing in the morning. Diet aside, simple routines still matter.
