Fawad-Vaani's Abir Gulaal to release worldwide under new title, but skip India?
India, Aug. 12 -- After months of delay, Abir Gulaal, starring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan opposite Vaani Kapoor, is set for a worldwide release but will likely skip India. As per a BizAsia report, it has been re-titled to Aabeer Gulaal and will release on August 29.
The film, originally slated for a May 9 release in India, was set to mark Fawad's Bollywood comeback after Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016). However, in the wake of the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) had called for a boycott of the film. When we reached out to the film body's president BN Tiwari, he said he was not aware of its release.
This film seems to be following the route of actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh starrer Sardaarji 3. It had a worldwide premiere without releasing in India, with Pakistani actor Hania Aamir still a part of the cast.
We reached out to Abir Gulaal director Aarti Sriratan Bagdi and producer Vivek Agrawal for a comment, but they did not respond till the time of going to press. htc...
