India, Aug. 21 -- Days after Delhi University (DU) warned student candidates against flouting rules ahead of the Delhi University Students' Union elections (September 18) a video from Rajdhani College has put the spotlight on a group caught in the middle of campaigning chaos: college security guards. In the clip, guards can be seen struggling to control large groups of campaigners at the college gates. "Sabse badi problem humare liye yeh hai ki yeh bacche bheed mein aa jaate hain aur hum sab toh 4-5 hi hote hain. Hum kaise rokein inhe?" says a guard from the college, adding that the rush often leaves little time to verify whether those entering are DU students or outsiders. Ashok, a guard at a North Campus college, recalls a recent confrontation when three men demanded entry. "Humne student ID maanga toh bhadak gaye! Later, we found out that only one of them was a student, aur woh bhi kisi aur college ka! College ke students ki safety ki zimmedari humare haath mein hai," he says. A guard at Ramjas College says the pressure works both ways. "Agar hum rok nahin paate toh baad mein humein hi daant diya jaata hai ki tumhare hote hue kaise ghus gaye," he says. "Inko rokte huye humein chot bhi lag jaati hai, but woh kisi ko nahin dikhta." Shanti, a woman security guard at another college, says staff has sought additional support: "Humne request daali hai ki ya toh aur security staff dedo ya police ki help le lo. Agar galati se humse kisi ko lag gayi unhe rokte huye, tab bhi humein hi kheechte hain."...
